Our Services
Barefoot TrimmingBarefoot trimming involves evaluating the horse for conformity and movement, evaluating the hoof to determine the position of the internal structures, and evaluating the horses living environment for potential problems. Hooves that have been shod for some time will always have some problems, ranging from contracted heels, to long toes. Frequently the coffin bone will be in the wrong position in the hoof capsule. Chronic laminitis and thrush can also be an issue. The primary goal of trimming is to return the hoof to the correct position around the coffin bone. In our experience, a properly trimmed foot, that has fully transitioned (adapted) to being barefoot, is much tougher than a foot with steel nailed to it.
Set up trims are $45 per horse, with no farm call service fee.
Maintenance trims are $35 and should be done every 4 to 6 weeks. Again, no farm call fees are charged once we are on a schedule.
Hooves with pathology will usually require several trims during the first couple of months, during which time boots must be used to ride.
Horseshoe Removal
Shoe removal is $10.
Trush Treatment
We stock thrush buster and will apply it during the trim if needed. We also carry Birdsall's Hoof Treatment. Birdsall's is a blend of copper, turpentine, and hoof oil, and is a good moisturizer and thrush preventative.
Mild cases can be treated with a Pine Sol soak and Thrush Buster.
Serious cases of thrush or white line disease require treament with White Lightning. Treatment involves bagging or booting the foot for up to 12 hours.
White Lightning treatment with bagging is $48 per foot.
Easycare and Swiss Horse Boot Fitting and Sales
Riding boots have come a long way in the last few years. Boots now last for many seasons of riding, and are significantly less expensive than repetitive shoeing. The key to success with boots is proper fitting, and picking the correct boot for the type of riding you expect to do. We have been trained to fit both Easycare Boots, and Swiss Horse Boots.
Fitting alone is $5
Fitting with boot purchase is free.
We can also apply glue on boots.
